Annual Wiederkehr Village Weinfest We invite you to join us in celebrating the 46th Annual Weinfest on Saturday, September 26, 2009. Admission is FREE, and the entertainment and games will be going on all day long. The Weinfest Dinner, served from 2 to 7 p.m., is only $12 and includes Back Hendel Vienna (delicious chicken fried in the European way), Spaghetti Italiano, salad, bread, and a beverage. Read all about the Weinfest details below and in our Weinfest brochure. • Weinfest Schedule • Weinfest Entertainment Features • Weinfest Activities • Local Accommodations (separate page) Weinfest Schedule The schedule starts at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 10:00 p.m. Here are the various events and times: • Tours of the historic wine cellars begin at 8:30 a.m. • Arts & Crafts and Food Concessions: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. • Weinfest Dinner service hours: 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. • Festival Entertainment begins in the morning and continues throughout the day (see entertainment features below). Weinfest Entertainment Features The activities during the Weinfest include: • Championship Grape Stomp • Conga Line dancing through the wine cellars • Sing-along in German and English • Bacchus (the Roman god of wine) to enchant and entertain you • Contests and door prizes • Many more live entertainment acts Throughout the day, come early and enjoy: • FREE wine tasting tours, polka lessons, and tram rides through the vineyards • Strolling musicians • Concessions with International cuisine • Dining at the Weinkeller Restaurant and patio dining • Horseback rides • Arts and crafts displays • Award-winning Wiederkehr wines and gourmet items in the 1880 Wine and Gift Shoppe • Many more attractions Weinfest Activities The Tyrolean-style activities begin early in the day, with tours of the historic wine cellars starting at 8:30 am in the midst of the festivities, ending in the charming wine tasting room. Then catch a ride on one of the open trams through the vineyards to an observation tower with a panoramic view of the Arkansas River Valley. Browse through the arts and crafts exhibits, and join in the fun as a spectator or as a participant in one of our contests. The Alpine Sports Championship has both men's and women's categories, and there will be a winner in each contest as well as an overall champion for men and for women. Contests include Stein Stemmen (stone toss), Baum Stossen (log toss), Alpine Horn Blowing, and Barrel Rolling. Of course, no weinfest would be complete without a Grape Stomping contest! This year, we're having four grape stomps leading up to the championship Grape Stomp at the end of the day. Bring your dancing shoes for the polka dancing to authentic German music by the Waterloo German Band throughout the day. We'll also have a DJ in the Weingarten, and the local Ozark Jazz Band will perform onstage as well. With sing-alongs in German and English, Alpine dancers and strolling musicians, and a conga line through the cellars, there's plenty of fun for the whole family! And then there's the food! Throughout the day, concession stands will serve a variety of international foods, such as Quiche Lorraine, Old World Potato Soup, Smoked Bratwurst with Sauerkraut, and many other delicacies. The famous Weinkeller Restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner as usual, and patio dining will be available. The Weinkeller is also catering all the concessions and the Weinfest Dinner, with Back Hendel Vienna (a chicken specialty) and Spaghetti Italiano with salad, bread, and more. The Dinner will be served in the Weingarten, and you can eat there or take your meal anywhere you want to eat: outside under the 80-by-40 tent to watch the stage performers or follow your friends who compete in the Alpine Sports Championship contests. Seating for the Weinfest is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so come early and enjoy good food and good times with good friends. The Weinfest will go on, rain or shine, so make plans now to experience this fun and exciting celebration.
